on the outside, our building looks like a church and it was at one point. but today our little sanctuary serves as a sacred space for all.
in the beginning, and when we say beginning we mean 1877, the foundation was laid for what was called Primitive baptist church at 507 castle street. according to the historic wilmington foundation, the space served the same congregation for almost a century. by 1992, it changed hands becoming st. jude’s metropolitan community church which ministered the LGBT community. eventually, while preserving the heart pine beadboard interiors and colorful stained glass, the sanctuary took on a new purpose harboring antiques for a local collector and shopkeeper.
In August 2016, the space was cleared, honoring all that came before, opening the big red doors and establishing terra sol sanctuary — a yoga studio and event space.
