The shoulder Health workshop will be 75min long and feature The Turkish Get-Up movement, (TGU). The TGU uses all planes of movement, mobility, and strength. In Russia it was known as the weighted yoga movement. It is a beautiful example of training primitive movement patterns- from rolling, kneeling to standing and reaching. The beginning part of class I will discuss the movement it’s history, etc. I will incorporate bands after that to wake up hips and shoulders. Cork yoga blocks as a way to incorporate weight or “feedback” for the TGU.
A little bit about your host, Mike:
I grew up in New York playing all sports, but baseball was my favorite. I ended up having shoulder surgery my sophomore year of H.S. and was unable to play again. That led me to getting a 4yr degree in Athletic Training from Dominican University in Blauvelt, NY (formerly Dominican College). I loved learning how to prevent injuries in the first place. I started doing personal training while in college and have now made it my profession for 21 years. I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through NSCA. I have my Kettlebell certification through StrongFirst, and many other certifications in my career. I really enjoy helping people become a better version of themselves mentally and physically. Resilience and anti-fragile are the two things I like to accomplish in my clients and myself. Since building myself up after shoulder surgery I boxed for many years, played rugby for a bit, basketball, and every now and then hit the batting cages. My goal is to keep playing in sports and in life…forever!
